BMW 5 E39 facelift 00-03 bi-xenon headlight repair & upgrade kit for xenon HID headlights

This BMW 5 E39 facelift kit contains everything you need to swap your old, blacked-out projectors for powerful new bi-xenon HID projectors. Using the exact same mounting points, it makes retrofitting quick and easy. And, most importantly, it will take your 5 to the next level – just check out the test pictures! This is way beyond what the majority of OEM projectors can achieve.

The EvoX-R 2.0 is without a doubt the brightest bi-xenon projector our light meter has ever gauged, enabling you to use D1S, D2S, D3S and D4S bulbs, including the most powerful options from Osram and Philips. Available bulb colour temperatures range from 4300K to 6500K. You will literally outshine the competition. The crystal-clear 3.0-inch lens throws a wide low beam with a solid hotspot and sharp cutoff. As for the high beam? It’s like the sun. And because only the projector is replaced, the leveling system keeps working as original.

Such a light output would not be possible without efficient ballasts. If you’re happy with the ballasts that you’ve already got, simply leave them in place. Alternatively, add a set of our Aharon digital 35W ballasts to your order. The Aharon ballast has – as opposed to many other aftermarket units – been tested to generate a full 35W. It comes in a rugged and extremely compact housing perfect for retrofitting, and its in-wire starter warms xenon HID bulbs in as little as five seconds. The Aharon ballast is also Canbus-proof, so you won’t get any bulb failure readings on your display. Please be advised, the input is a 9006 type connector, OEM ballasts usually have different input connectors. So you will need to find the Positive and Negative wire which are used for the low beam signal to connect to the input of the ballast. Also mounting will be different. So this requires some DIY. A high beam splitter is also included, making for easy integration of the bi-xenon mechanism. With the Aharon ballasts and wiring, power supply is strong, steady and reliable.

Lastly, this kit provides every single part that you will need for retrofitting. In order to keep the price low, we have however assumed that you will keep your existing xenon HID bulbs. Depending on how old those are, you may want to also order a new set of bulbs to get the most out of your retrofitted system. Xenon bulbs do lose up to 70% of their maximum brightness over time.

The kit also includes new rubber housing caps. And installation hardware to mount the new projector perfectly flush in the opening for the lens. The new projector is shorter than the original one and it looks better when it is mounted further forward. Without this hardware, it is quite some work to get it fitted nicely.

This is a fairly straightforward retrofit that even complete novices can do, but those with more skills and experience will be quicker. Discounting removal and replacement of the headlights, you could expect the job to take anything from one to three hours.

Simply open the BMW 5 E39 facelift headlights (they’re sealed with butyl, so that’s a quick job), mount the projectors and shrouds, and reseal. Done.

2003 headlights

Installation
This is an advanced retrofit, but it does not require any special skills or experience. Novice retrofitters will simply need more time to finish. Discounting removal and replacement of the headlights, you could expect the job to take anything from three to seven hours.

Installation requires for the BMW 5 E39 facelift headlights to be opened, which is somewhat challenging due to the type of permanent sealing used. You might have to do multiple runs of heating and prying. On the other hand, once the headlights are open, installation of the new projectors, bulbs and ballasts is very straightforward.
